X/Open Framework and Models

This three part document provides a comprehensive blueprint for a framework of services for distributed applications (Part 1). The framework represents a broad consensus on the elements in a complete distributed computing environment, including X/Open's XPG, the Object Management Group Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA), the Open Software Foundation Distributed Computing Environment(DCE), and UNIX International UI-ATLAS Distributed Computing Framework. The document (Part 2) provides an architectural view of the Systems Management model identifying the various components required to manage a network of heterogeneous systems in a single logical system. It employes object-oriented techniques and encompasses both OMG and OSI Network Management Standards requirements. The book also describes (Part 3) the Distributed Transaction Processing: Reference Model, Version 2 that allows multiple application programs to share resources provides by multiple Resource Managers, and allows their work to be coordinated into global transactions.
